International Student Survey Official Launch!

As the lead investigator for this research study, I am so excited to see it finally come to fruition!

The idea for this survey and the longitudinal study of international student outcomes post-graduation stems from the informal discussions that often came up in my classroom. My field of research is immigration and settlement, and students would often ask me for advice as they neared graduation. When I looked at the academic literature on the topic, I found that most of it on the experiences of international students at universities.

When we first proposed the study, we had a different methodological approach in mind. The limitations that COVID-19 placed on how research could be conducted safely led us to adopt a more comprehensive survey of current students at Sheridan College. Through this initial survey, we hope to recruit participants for the longitudinal study.

We know that the experience of all students has been dramatically changed by COVID-19. Since this study was already planned and funded, we took the opportunity to include questions about how COVID-19 has affected international students in particular.

The launch of this survey has been a long time coming! We hope that the data we collect in the coming weeks helps to inform new policies to better support international students at Sheridan and other post-secondary institutions.
